Scapegrace Classic pairs a traditional juniper base with a distinct citrus accent. Orange and lemon peel play an important role among its twelve botanicals, with orange particularly prominent. Its foundations are neutral wheat spirit and water from New Zealand’s Southern Alps.

The botanicals come from several growing regions: juniper, orange peel and lemon peel from Spain are combined with New Zealand coriander seeds. They are joined by cardamom from Guatemala, nutmeg from the island of Grenada, angelica root from Poland, liquorice root and orris root from Italy, cloves from the Comoros, cinnamon from Sri Lanka and cassia bark from China. The gin is bottled at 42.2% alcohol.

An orange slice complements its citrus character in a gin and tonic. The black bottle bears a silver-coloured emblem; this version contains 0.7 litres and is offered without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pronounced juniper appears first, followed by delicate lavender and orange blossom notes. Earthy tones of cinnamon bark and nutmeg then emerge. Fresh citrus notes linger.
• Palate: Juniper, orange peel and bold spice notes lead on the palate. The gin is lively and citrus-forward, with a smooth mouthfeel and distinct freshness.
• Finish: The long finish brings warmth as juniper continues to linger. Orange and varied floral notes return in waves, leaving a smooth, distinctly citrus-led aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Scapegrace Distilling Co. produces the gin in New Zealand. A 19th-century whisky still is used to make Classic. Combining this historic equipment with twelve botanicals and water from the Southern Alps defines the production approach.

The company relocated from Grey Lynn in Auckland to Central Otago. Following a three-year search for a site, construction began in 2021 beside Lake Dunstan, overlooking Mount Pisa. The barrel store, warehouse and administrative facilities were completed in 2022, and the new distillery began operating in June 2024. Alongside gin, the range now also includes vodka and single malt whisky.
