Special Features:

Linden blossoms give this classic Dry Gin its distinctive signature. They are central to a recipe of 18 botanicals, in which juniper and orange also play important roles. The name Siegfried connects the gin to the Nibelung legend: a linden leaf covered the spot that remained vulnerable when the hero bathed in dragon’s blood. The blossoms thus link this Rhineland tale to the gin’s flavour.

Prominent juniper is accompanied by citrus freshness, floral notes and earthy spice. Siegfried can be enjoyed neat, in a gin and tonic or in cocktails. The gin is vegan and is bottled at 41% alcohol in a 0.5-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals gentle bitter orange notes. Subtle hints of thyme, cardamom and juniper complement the citrus aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, lavender freshness combines with spicy, earthy impressions of ginger and angelica root. Linden blossom adds a subtly warm accent and rounds out the flavour.
• Finish: Linden blossom gives the finish a soft, full and floral character.

Distillery/Bottler:

Siegfried was created by Raphael Vollmar and Gerald Koenen of Rheinland Distillers in Bonn. Their first experiments began in April 2013, when they steeped botanicals in alcohol. To develop the eventual gin recipe, they worked for several months with PJ Schütz of Eifel-Destillerie. That initial experiment grew into the Siegfried brand in 2014.

The alcohol strength was also a deliberate recipe choice: during the final tasting round in September 2014, the founders could not decide between 40% and 42%, eventually settling on 41%. They still labelled and packed the first batches by hand in their own living room. As early as 2015, the gin won Double Gold at the World Spirits Award and Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
