Special Features:
Whole citrus fruits give Tanqueray No. TEN its distinctive character. Grapefruit, lime and orange complement the classic gin botanicals juniper, coriander, angelica and liquorice, alongside chamomile flowers. The citrus distillate is produced in Tiny Ten, a copper still with a capacity of 500 litres. Its name inspired the designation No. TEN.
This gin is distilled four times and produced in small batches. Tanqueray uses only demineralised water for No. TEN. Its combination of citrus freshness and botanical spice suits both a Martini and a Gin & Tonic. This bottling contains 0.7 litres at 47.3% alcohol.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: On the nose, zesty grapefruit and other citrus notes meet juniper and the delicate scent of chamomile flowers.
- Palate: On the palate, juniper and coriander combine with angelica and liquorice.
- Finish: Vanilla and floral notes linger on the finish.
Distillery/Bottler:
Charles Tanqueray began distilling in London's Bloomsbury district in 1830. Today, Tanqueray is produced at Cameronbridge Distillery in Fife, Scotland. The wheat-based neutral spirit that forms the basis of the brand's gins is also made there. Producing the base spirit at the same site allows direct control over its consistent quality; the distillery's own laboratory also checks botanicals and samples from various stages of production.
Tanqueray's production method involves starting distillation after adding the botanicals, without a lengthy preliminary maceration. The brand uses the one-shot method: the botanical distillate is not subsequently diluted with additional neutral spirit to achieve the intended ratio of botanicals to alcohol. Water in the still prevents the plants from scorching on the exposed heating coils once the alcohol has evaporated. Water for production comes from boreholes along the River Leven and is treated on site.
