Tonka bean gives this gin its distinctive aromatic character: notes reminiscent of vanilla, bitter almond and spicy hay flowers meet a classic juniper base. The recipe contains 23 ingredients in total. With 0.05 litres at 47%, the miniature offers a small tasting size of Tonka Gin.

The flavour moves from juniper through light citrus nuances to soft, warm tonka bean on the finish. An orange zest garnish is recommended for a gin and tonic; the gin can also be used in a Gin Fizz.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla, bitter almond and hay flowers stand out on the nose. Juniper complements these aromas in the background.
• Palate: The gin feels soft and creamy on the palate, with persistent vanilla and bitter almond notes. Juniper provides the foundation; fresh, light citrus nuances emerge as the flavour develops, before tonka bean shapes the transition to the finish.
• Finish: The medium-length finish combines warming vanilla with a lightly bitter note and lingering hay flowers. Tonka bean brings a soft conclusion.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Soumikh family from Hamburg is behind Tonka Gin. Daniel Soumikh found the inspiration for his gin while travelling in Spain with his wife, where he encountered tonka bean not only in the kitchen but also at the bar. Working with bartenders and a distillery, he developed the recipe over almost two years. He presented the first finished bottles on 26 September 2014. His wife Serap joined the company the following year.

The gin is made at a small distillery near Hamburg, surrounded by fruit fields. Every step, from distillation to bottling, labelling and packing, is carried out by hand. The hand-numbered bottles are labelled with the production number, bottle number, and month and year of production.
