Special Features:

New American oak gives this dry gin its distinctive character: after distillation, the botanical distillates are blended and matured for nine months in casks with a capacity of 200 litres. Vanilla and spice notes complement its enduringly fresh, fruity character. A grain base, bottling at 44% and the absence of colouring are also defining features of Dutch Courage Aged Gin.

The recipe is the same as that of the unaged Dutch Courage Dry Gin. Its nine botanicals are juniper, orris root, coriander, angelica, oranges, fresh whole lemons, liquorice root, cardamom and vanilla. Zuidam distils the ingredients separately, carrying out a total of 14 distillations for the recipe. The individual aromatic components are thus extracted separately before being brought together.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla and fresh oak lead the nose. Behind them are juniper and angelica, with subtle candied orange peel and cardamom. A hint of cinnamon completes the aromas.
• Palate: The gin is full-bodied, silky and creamy on the palate. Dry, resinous juniper combines with toffee, almond and a light honey sweetness. The citrus notes are riper and less zesty than in an unaged dry gin, while the botanicals retain their distinct spiciness.
• Finish: The finish is long, warming and dry. Oak lingers, while juniper shapes the dry conclusion.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam Distillers is an independent family business in Baarle-Nassau in the Netherlands. Fred van Zuidam founded the distillery in 1975; his wife Hélène and their sons Patrick and Gilbert helped build the business. Alongside gin, it also produces genever, liqueurs and whisky. Its distillates and extracts are made and processed in-house.

For Dutch Courage, Zuidam brings together botanicals from different origins: juniper and orris root come from Italy, coriander from Morocco and liquorice root from India. Cardamom and whole vanilla pods come from Madagascar. This deliberate selection of raw materials and the separate distillation of the ingredients shape the approach behind the gin recipe.
