Special Features:

The eleven-year-old GlenAllachie with Marsala Wood Finish is a Speyside single malt bottled for the British market. It initially matured for more than eight years in American ex-bourbon casks, followed by around 42 months in selected Marsala casks. Marsala is a fortified wine from Sicily.

The finishing period of around three and a half years is not merely a brief final accent but an extended second maturation phase. The Marsala casks shape the whisky with sweet fruit, soft caramel, a velvety mouthfeel and a long finish. Heather honey, vanilla and stewed fruit are joined by liquorice, butterscotch and roasted nuts.

The whisky is unpeated and not smoky, and is bottled at 48%. It contains no added colouring and is not chill-filtered. Apricot, toffee and honeycomb form its sweet, fruity side, while liquorice, roasted nuts and walnut provide spicy, nutty contrasts.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Heather honey, vanilla and stewed fruit mingle with liquorice, butterscotch and roasted nuts.
• Palate: On the palate, apricot, toffee and honeycomb are followed by delicate notes of caramelised brown sugar, walnut and crème brûlée.
• Finish: The finish is long and carries the walnut and crème brûlée notes forward.

Distillery/Bottler:

The eleven-year-old Marsala Wood Finish comes from The GlenAllachie Distillery and is an official distillery bottling. Designed by William Delmé-Evans, the distillery was built by Mackinlay McPherson in 1967 and began production in 1968. Its facilities were designed to make extensive use of gravity in the production process, thereby reducing energy requirements.

Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson acquired The GlenAllachie from Chivas Brothers in 2017. Just nine months later, the Speyside distillery released the first core range of its own single malts; previously, its whisky had mainly been used in blends. The eleven-year-old Marsala Wood Finish belongs to the GlenAllachie Wood Finish series.
