Distilled in 1966, this Benriach is a 55-year-old single-cask bottling from first-fill American hogshead 607. Gordon & MacPhail oversaw its maturation and bottled the whisky in 2021 at 51.2%, with an outturn of 52 bottles. This naturally coloured, non-chill-filtered bottling comes in a premium presentation box.

The Dram Takers Collection showcases single malts from distilleries that have played a distinctive role in Scotland’s whisky history. Its label design draws on the medieval Book of Kells and depicts two “Dram Takers” raising a toast together.

The aromatic profile combines tropical fruit and vanilla with honey, ripe orchard fruit, spices, dried fruit and oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with sweet honey aromas, waxy red apple and lemon peel. Spices then emerge alongside hints of coffee fudge, apricot and oak.
• Palate: The whisky is smooth and sweet on the palate. Orange marmalade, toasted nuts and anise combine with spice, charred oak and a hint of menthol.
• Finish: The finish is medium-bodied and characterised by lively citrus fruit.

Distillery/Bottler:

John Duff founded the Benriach Distillery in 1898. After a long period of closure, the distillery resumed production in 1965. This whisky was distilled in 1966, during the early phase following its reopening.

Since 1895, Gordon & MacPhail has refined the art of matching spirits from Scottish distilleries with casks made to its own specifications. For the Dram Takers Collection, the independent bottler uses its own casks and oversees their contents for many years. For this release, Gordon & MacPhail managed the maturation of the Benriach whisky, selected hogshead 607 and bottled its contents for the collection.
