Distilled in 1999, this Benriach spent 24 years in refill sherry butt 63204, a sherry cask that had already been used. Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky from this single cask on 27 February 2024 for its Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength range. Batch 24/190 comprises 492 bottles at 57.1%.

Seville orange and raspberry sit alongside nutty notes and toffee. A hint of lavender adds a floral accent, while liquorice and ginger bring spice. The whisky is non-chill-filtered, contains no added colouring and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, Brazil nut and Seville orange are joined by a delicate lavender note.
• Palate: The palate begins with sweet raspberry liquorice, followed by toffee with dark sugar syrup and ginger spice.
• Finish: The finish is full-bodied and spicy, with citrus notes that linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

John Duff founded Benriach in northern Speyside in 1898. Although the distillery closed in 1900, its maltings remained in operation and supplied neighbouring Longmorn. Benriach resumed producing its own whisky in 1965. Its stills increased from two to four in 1985, and the first Benriach single malt appeared in 1994.

Gordon & MacPhail is the independent bottler of this Benriach. George Urquhart developed Connoisseurs Choice in the 1960s to make single malts from individual Scottish distilleries available. For the range, Gordon & MacPhail selects spirits, oversees their maturation and bottles them; today it also includes single-cask releases at cask strength.
