Special Features:

This Islay single malt, distilled in 1989, matured for 35 years in refill American oak hogshead 5892. Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky from the cask on 25 April 2025 for the Connoisseurs Choice range at a cask strength of 43.6%.

This single-cask release comprises 108 bottles. It was bottled without chill filtration or added colour and is presented in a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, fragrant broom blossom, apple and quince create a floral and fruity opening, while a hint of old leather adds a spicy accent.
• Palate: The palate brings mango and pineapple alongside spicy ginger and sweet liquorice. Malty cereal notes and a subtle touch of menthol complete the profile.
• Finish: The finish is medium in length and smooth, with lingering notes of fresh citrus, oak and sweet aniseed.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Bunnahabhain Distillery was founded in 1881 along with the settlement surrounding it in the remote north-east of Islay; production began in 1883. Mineral-rich water from the Margadale Spring and a predominantly unpeated style shape the distillery’s robust, complex single malts, which display fruity, spicy and subtly maritime traits.

George Urquhart established Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968. Since then, the independent bottler has matured distillates from numerous Scottish distilleries in selected casks. In 2025, Gordon & MacPhail released the whisky from Bunnahabhain hogshead 5892 as a 35-year-old single-cask bottling in this range.
