Special Features:

This Clynelish matured for fifty years in a single Refill American Hogshead. It was distilled on 16 May 1972 and bottled on 7 November 2022 by Gordon & MacPhail for the Private Collection. Cask 5335 yielded just 135 bottles at a natural cask strength of 58%.

This release combines a fruity character with nutty, gently spicy and mature wood notes. It is not smoky and is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. Each bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in an oak presentation case.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, fresh apple and walnut combine with gentle ginger spice. Sicilian lime emerges, accompanied by a delicate note of aged leather.
• Palate: On the palate, soft notes of poached pear give way to apricot and banana. A hint of vanilla develops alongside pineapple and mature oak.
• Finish: The finish is full and long, with lingering citrus peel.

Distillery/Bottler:

Clynelish's history dates back to 1819. The present distillery was built beside the original site, which later became known as Brora. The new distillery's stills followed the shape of their predecessors, and water continued to come from the Clynemilton Burn. Natural oily compounds that accumulate in the receiver for the feints from distillation contribute to Clynelish's characteristic waxiness. This general distillery characteristic is an important part of its working practices.

Gordon & MacPhail is the independent bottler of this Clynelish. The company's roots lie in the shop on South Street in Elgin, established in 1895. For the Private Collection, the directors, including members of the third and fourth generations of the Urquhart family, select exceptional casks. They draw on knowledge of spirit and cask maturation passed down through generations. The range's single-cask bottlings display the cask number, vintage and natural alcohol strength on their labels.
