This Craigellachie from the Connoisseurs Choice series spent 21 years in a refill bourbon barrel. Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky, distilled in 2002, from cask 15602203 on 23 April 2024 at a cask strength of 57.9%. The single cask yielded 219 bottles of 0.7 litres each. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring; it comes in gift packaging.

White chocolate, vanilla and apple give the whisky a sweet, bright side, while malt biscuits recall the robust character of Craigellachie’s spirit. Banana, mango and peach bring ripe fruit, set against the spice of anise and pepper and the freshness of lime.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, white chocolate and vanilla mingle with apple, sweet malt and sponge cake.
• Palate: The whisky is balanced on the palate, with banana, juicy mango and peach, complemented by a hint of anise.
• Finish: The medium-length finish fades with pepper and lime.

Distillery/Bottler:

Craigellachie stands in the heart of Speyside, above the meeting of the Fiddich and Spey rivers. Charles Doig designed the distillery, which began production in 1891. It still condenses alcohol vapour in worm tubs: copper coils run through water-cooled vessels. The limited contact with copper helps give its spirit a robust, waxy and oily character. The distillery belongs to John Dewar & Sons within the Bacardi group. Founded in Elgin in 1895, Gordon & MacPhail specialises in selecting casks and maturing single malts from different Scottish distilleries for extended periods. For this release, it independently bottled the Craigellachie whisky.
