This Glen Grant matured for 14 years in refill Sherry Hogshead number 900927. Distilled in 2009, the single malt was bottled in 2024 by Gordon & MacPhail for Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength. The single cask yielded 269 bottles at 56.9% cask strength. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Sherry has a clear influence on this bottling. Nuts, chocolate and savoury notes contrast with more restrained fruitiness. Nougat, honey and brioche add to its range of sweet aromas.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with toffee, walnut cake, milk chocolate and vanilla ice cream, alongside gentle woody notes. Pepper and a little ginger then emerge. Raisin sweetness gradually gives way to cooked orchard fruit and baked apple.
• Palate: Roasted walnuts and hazelnuts lead the palate alongside milk chocolate and caramel. Subtle salty notes, clove and a little blackcurrant add to the flavour. Pronounced meaty notes and a slight tannic note push the fruit into the background. Cocoa powder and a distant hint of rye spice emerge later.
• Finish: The long finish remains nutty. Drying leafy notes mingle with salt, mocha, burnt caramel and oak spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glen Grant produced this single malt in Speyside. Brothers John and James Grant founded the distillery in 1840. James “The Major” Grant took over in 1872 and shaped its technical development with tall, slender stills and water-cooled purifiers. These remain distinctive features of its distillation process.

As an independent bottler, Gordon & MacPhail selects, matures and bottles whiskies from various distilleries. George Urquhart introduced Connoisseurs Choice in 1968, when much of Scotland’s whisky production still went into blends. The range made single malts from lesser-known distilleries available too. Its cask selection and maturation are intended to highlight each distillery’s individual character.
