This 25-year-old Glenburgie belongs to Gordon & MacPhail's Distillery Labels range. It brings together single malt from the Speyside distillery and the independent bottler's cask selection and long-term maturation work. Gordon & MacPhail specifies bourbon casks; the whisky is bottled at 46% and comes in a box.

The range draws on labels Gordon & MacPhail traditionally used for whiskies from individual distilleries. In this Glenburgie, vanilla and fresh fruit sit alongside spicy accents. Its golden colour comes without added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, vanilla and fresh green apple mingle with lime zest, pineapple, peach and apricot. A hint of ginger complements the fruit.
• Palate: The whisky feels soft and creamy on the palate. Pineapple, mango and peach meet lime zest and a gentle bite of black pepper.
• Finish: The fruity finish brings a hint of fresh mint and oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glenburgie is near Alves, between Forres and Elgin. The distillery was producing whisky as Kilnflat by 1829; after a period of closure, it took the name Glenburgie in 1878. For a short time it also made another single malt, Glencraig, distilled in now-rare Lomond stills.

Gordon & MacPhail has operated in Elgin since 1895. The company obtains fresh spirit from Scottish distilleries and selects casks in which it will mature. It works with Speyside Cooperage to source ex-bourbon casks from North America. Gordon & MacPhail decides when to bottle a whisky according to how it develops during maturation. Whiskies in the Distillery Labels range carry labels that reflect its longstanding relationships with the respective distilleries.
