This Glentauchers was distilled in 2008 and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in 2023 for its Distillery Labels range. The release highlights a Speyside malt otherwise best known as an important component of classic blends. Its traditional label also reflects the longstanding relationship between the Elgin bottler and the distillery.

Bottled at 46%, this whisky is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring. Its fruit-led profile brings together cooked orchard fruit and citrus with delicate pastries and spices. Sweet malt and a little oak add further accents, while the finish becomes increasingly dry and nutty.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Ripe oranges and apples appear first on the nose, followed by milk chocolate and a hint of fresh vanilla pod. Stewed apples and delicate pastry notes mingle with sweet vanilla, spicy honey and candied orange peel.
• Palate: The whisky feels soft and lively on the palate. Ripe pears and pear compote meet candied orange peel, anise and heather honey. Apricots, toasted nuts and fresh herbs complement the fruit, while a pinch of white pepper adds a spicy accent. Sweet malt also shapes the flavour.
• Finish: The finish is medium in length and becomes increasingly dry. Toffee, malt sweets and fresh walnuts accompany the lingering, gentle spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Glentauchers Distillery was founded in 1897 and belonged to the successful blender James Buchanan. Charles Doig oversaw its design. With its own railway siding, the distillery made use of Scotland's expanding rail network. Its light Speyside malt is relatively rarely released as a single malt; Gordon & MacPhail has regularly bottled whisky from the distillery since the 1990s.

Gordon & MacPhail is a family-owned company based in Elgin, with a history dating back to 1895. To mature whisky in its own casks, the bottler supplied selected casks to Scottish distilleries, where they were filled with new-make spirit. The whisky then matured either at the respective distillery or in the company's warehouses in Elgin. This Glentauchers also came to Gordon & MacPhail as new-make spirit and matured in its own casks. The Distillery Labels range reflects these longstanding relationships through historic labels.
