Special Features:

This Linkwood matured for 41 years in a Refill American Hogshead. The whisky was distilled on 12 September 1980 and bottled from cask 8255 on 31 December 2021. Gordon & MacPhail selected it for the Private Collection; this single-cask release comprises 121 bottles at 52.3%. Refill denotes a cask previously used to mature whisky, without specifying how many times it has been filled before.

This non-smoky Speyside Single Malt combines fruity and floral impressions with honeyed sweetness, nuts and spicy wood. It was bottled without chill filtration or added colouring and is presented in a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals fresh apple, floral notes and vanilla. Pear, honey, dried fruit and delicate oak spice complement the bouquet.
• Palate: Honey, dried fruit and nuts come together on the palate. The texture is creamy, with yellow fruit, caramel and spicy wood notes adding to the flavour.
• Finish: The long finish lingers with oak and spice. Fruit and gentle sweetness accompany the dry oak note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Linkwood lies on the outskirts of Elgin in Speyside. Peter Brown founded the distillery in 1821, and production began four years later. A second stillhouse with four stills was added in 1971. The two neighbouring facilities were known as Linkwood A and Linkwood B. Linkwood's house style is fruity and floral; a large proportion of its production is used in Blended Scotch.

Gordon & MacPhail has worked with Linkwood as an independent bottler for more than a century. The company began with a shop opened on South Street in Elgin in 1895. For the Private Collection, the directors, including members of the third and fourth generations of the Urquhart family, select casks according to their individual character and maturity. The single-cask releases display the vintage, cask number and natural alcohol strength on their labels. For this Linkwood, Gordon & MacPhail was responsible for overseeing maturation, selecting the cask and bottling the whisky.
