Distilled in 2003, this Macallan from the Speymalt range spent more than two decades in sherry cask 11552. In 2024, Gordon & MacPhail bottled 593 bottles from the cask at a cask strength of 60.1%. The whisky is non-chill-filtered, contains no added colouring and comes in gift packaging.

This single-cask release brings together stewed fruit and Christmas spices with orange peel, baked apple and raspberry compote. Anise, mature oak and black pepper complement the fruit notes. Rather than combining whisky from several casks, the entire release comes from cask 11552.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals stewed fruit and Christmas spices with a hint of orange peel.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky tastes of spiced baked apple and raspberry compote, accompanied by a subtle note of anise.
• Finish: The long finish brings mature oak and a hint of black pepper.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Macallan stands on the Easter Elchies Estate beside the River Spey; Alexander Reid obtained a distilling licence in 1824. The distillery uses water from the Ringorm Burn and comparatively small stills. It produced the spirit for this Speymalt release, while Gordon & MacPhail oversaw its maturation and bottling.

James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail founded their business in Elgin in 1895, initially as a grocery shop. The family later made the selection and maturation of single malts a central part of its work. For Speymalt, Gordon & MacPhail has specially selected oak casks filled with spirit from The Macallan and oversees its maturation until bottling.
