Distilled at Pulteney in 2005, this Highland single malt matured for 20 years in refill sherry butt No. 1680. Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky from this cask in September 2025 at 56.9%. The single-cask release comprises 534 bottles and is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Raisins, blackcurrants and cinnamon open the aromatic profile. Stewed berries, walnut and caramelised apple follow before raspberry, salty liquorice and fine tannins shape the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

James Henderson founded Pulteney Distillery in Wick in 1826 and named it after the newly established district of Pulteneytown. The distillery is located in Wick, a harbour town on Scotland’s north-eastern coast, and attributes its character to this maritime setting. The spirit is produced in two copper stills; the unusually flat top of the wash still and the use of a worm tub for cooling are among the distillery’s distinctive features.

George Urquhart created Connoisseurs Choice in the 1960s to give single malts from individual Scottish distilleries a platform of their own. Within the range, Gordon & MacPhail selects, matures and independently bottles the whiskies. For this release, Gordon & MacPhail selected and matured the whisky in refill sherry butt No. 1680 before bottling it at cask strength.
