Special Features:

This Strathisla from the Private Collection matured in a first-fill sherry butt. The spirit was distilled on 19 December 1953, then bottled from cask 1613 in January 2019 after 65 years. The single cask yielded 143 bottles at 43.5% alcohol. The whisky is presented in a wooden box.

Its long maturation in a sherry cask is reflected in its mahogany colour and notes of dried fruit, dark berries, spice and oak. The whisky has no added colouring and was not chill-filtered.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Dried fruit and sherry come first on the nose, joined by wood polish, candied fruit and a distinct note of orange oil. Clove, nutmeg and allspice lead to a subtle hint of menthol.
• Palate: Mature oak appears first on the palate, followed by blackberries, black and red currants, and cranberries. Crystallised ginger develops alongside dark chocolate, while anise remains present.
• Finish: Fruit and oak remain in balance on the finish. Nutty notes accompany a subtle cigar-box note that lingers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Strathisla began operating in 1786 under the name Milltown and is one of Scotland’s oldest continuously operating distilleries. The distillery is in Speyside; much of its whisky now goes into blends, including Chivas Regal.

Gordon & MacPhail is the independent bottler of this Strathisla. The company has worked with spirits from Scottish distilleries since 1895 and pays particular attention to cask selection. Its sherry casks are made and seasoned to its specifications in Jerez before being taken to Scotland.
