Special Features:

This Tamdhu matured for 34 years in a single Refill American Hogshead and belongs to Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength range. The whisky was distilled in 1989 and bottled from cask 12881 on 8 January 2024. The cask yielded just 95 bottles at a natural cask strength of 54.8%.

This long-matured single-cask bottling combines citrus fruit and green apple with nutty spice and honeyed sweetness. Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky without chill filtration or added colouring; it comes in a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals lemon peel and green apple, accompanied by a spicy Brazil nut note.
• Palate: On the palate, lively orange and lemon zest give way to sweet honeycomb and dried banana. A subtle hint of anise complements the flavours.
• Finish: The finish is full-bodied and long-lasting. Caramelised brown sugar defines the sweet aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tamdhu was established in 1897 on the River Spey near Knockando. A group of merchants and entrepreneurs from the whisky trade commissioned distillery architect Charles C Doig to build it. The distillery draws its production water from the Tamdhu spring.

As an independent bottler, Gordon & MacPhail oversaw the maturation and selection of this Tamdhu. George Urquhart created Connoisseurs Choice in 1968 to bring the individual single malts of Scottish distilleries to a wider audience. Blended whisky dominated the market at the time, and some of the distilleries featured had never previously offered their whisky as a single malt. For this range, Gordon & MacPhail matures spirit from various distilleries and bottles the whiskies with the aim of highlighting their individual character.
