A finish in XO Cognac casks made from French Limousin oak shapes this Irish blend of single malt and single grain whiskey. Before finishing, the whiskey matured in former bourbon casks. Combining these two whiskey styles brings together the malt's character and the grain whiskey's vanilla sweetness. Egan's Centenary is bottled at 46%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

This limited edition commemorates the centenary of Henry Egan's death in 2019. The family company's co-founder was active in the cause of Irish independence. An Irish tweed coaster is included, recalling how Henry Egan smuggled Irish tweed clothing into prison for the political prisoner William O’Brien in 1887. The worldwide release comprises 5,995 bottles.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Floral cereal notes mingle with honey and dried apricot on the nose. Vanilla then emerges.
• Palate: Light waffle notes meet almonds, ginger and citrus fruit on the palate.
• Finish: The finish is gentle. Ginger gives way to lemon zest and liquorice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Egan's history began in 1852 in Tullamore, County Offaly, where Patrick and Henry Egan founded P. & H. Egan Ltd. The trading company was involved in importing, malting and brewing, among other activities, and blended and bottled whiskey. Today, family members including Jonathan, Rupert and Maurice Egan carry on this tradition.

Egan's operates as a whiskey bonder: the company selects Irish spirits and shapes their development through cask selection, maturation, finishing and blending. The Master Bonder chooses the spirits with the final whiskey already in mind, then selects suitable casks for both the main maturation and the finish. The interplay between spirit, cask and maturation time is central to this approach.
