Special Features:

Two stages of sherry cask maturation shape this Royal Brackla. The whisky first matured in a traditional European oak sherry butt before continuing its development in PX sherry barriques from Bodegas Ximénez-Spínola in Jerez. This brings together maturation in a large oak cask and the additional influence of Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.

Murray McDavid released this single malt, distilled in 2011, at 15 years old as part of the autumn 2026 release of its Benchmark series. The limited bottling comprises 928 bottles and bears cask numbers 2130030, 2201630 and 2201631. The whisky was bottled at 57.2% in 0.7-litre bottles, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, milk chocolate and walnuts mingle with the aroma of cookie dough.
• Palate: Creamy malt meets mixed berries and red apple on the palate.
• Finish: Dried cranberries, fudge and cinnamon pastries linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Royal Brackla is located on the Cawdor Estate in the Scottish Highlands. Captain William Fraser founded the distillery in 1812 and grew his own barley for whisky production. In 1833, his whisky became the first Scotch to receive a Royal Warrant from King William IV. This royal distinction explains the addition of Royal to the name.

Murray McDavid is responsible for the cask selection and this independent bottling. Wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin founded the company in 1994 together with Gordon Wright of Springbank Distillery. Their wine expertise informed the selection of unusual maturation casks, particularly high-quality wine casks. Today, Murray McDavid is based at Coleburn Distillery in Speyside, where Dean leads the Whisky Creations Team.
