A wine barrique from Portugal’s Douro Valley shapes this Royal Brackla from the Cask Masters range. The whisky matured for twelve years in First Fill Douro Valley Wine Barrique number 506/2012. Dark cherries, dried fruit, chocolate and nuts define its character.

The whisky was distilled on 2 July 2012 and bottled by Brave New Spirits on 3 December 2024. This single cask from the Distiller’s Cut series yielded 266 bottles for the German market. The whisky was bottled at a cask strength of 56.8%, without added colour or chill filtration. The label draws on the Japanese art of paper cutting known as Kirigami.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers berries, figs and raisins alongside malt and honey.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and rich on the palate. Dark fruit and sweetness are accompanied by gentle spice.
• Finish: The finish is dry and spicy, with lingering nuts and peppery notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Captain William Fraser founded Royal Brackla in 1812 on the Cawdor Estate in the Scottish Highlands. In 1833, it became the first Scottish whisky distillery to receive a Royal Warrant from King William IV. Royal Brackla made the single malt for this release; Brave New Spirits selected the single cask and bottled the whisky.

The independent bottler was founded in Glasgow in 2020 and operates its own bonded warehouse and bottling facility there. For Cask Masters, Brave New Spirits selects individual casks and states the whisky’s age, cask type and bottling date on the labels. Within the range, Distiller’s Cut highlights the distillery’s character through carefully selected casks.
