Special features: This 18-year-old Tomatin Single Malt was matured in a First Fill Pedro Ximénez Sherry Butt with cask number 900227. Due to a leaking cask, only 360 bottles could be filled instead of the expected 730, which were nonetheless bottled at cask strength.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Creamy honey and English caramel toffee unfold against a backdrop of apricot. Followed by cake crumbs and later white currant.
- Palate: Pleasantly soft and creamy, yet complex. Less sweet than on the nose with subtle apricot, darker toffee, and spicier forest honey.
- Finish: Medium length and more spicy than fruity, with a pleasantly sweet toffee note.
Distillery/Bottler: The Tomatin Distillery was founded in 1897 and is located in the Scottish Highlands, south of Inverness. It was the largest Scottish distillery in the 1970s with a production capacity of 12 million liters per year. Today, Tomatin focuses on high-quality single malts and has established itself as one of the ten largest distilleries in Scotland.
