Special Features:

The first-fill Bordeaux red wine barrique numbered 1834 gives this single-cask release its berry character, while Tomatin’s malty character remains evident. Distilled in April 2009, the whisky was bottled for the LongValley Selection in January 2024 after 14 years of maturation. The release comprises 328 bottles. The whisky is bottled at 50% alcohol, comes in a tube, and contains no added colouring. It was not chill-filtered.

Redcurrants, blackberries and plums form the fruity core. Toasted malt, cinnamon and clove add spice, complemented by floral notes and a little oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals barley malt, redcurrants and blackberries, with a hint of cinnamon and light floral notes.
• Palate: Forest berries and ripe plums lead on the palate, with clove and toasted malt adding further notes.
• Finish: The medium-length finish leaves berry fruit, mild spice and a hint of oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tomatin was founded in 1897 in the Highlands south of Inverness. The distillery uses water from the Alt-na-Frith and distils in tall, slender copper stills. Following its purchase by Takara Shuzo and Okura & Co. in 1986, Takara Shuzo has been the majority shareholder.

LongValley Selection is the independent bottling range of Switzerland’s Langatun Distillery AG. Its name refers to Langenthal, where the Baumberger family’s distilling and brewing tradition began in 1857. Mature Scotch whiskies and individual casks are selected for the range; this release was distilled by Tomatin and bottled from cask 1834 for LongValley Selection.
