Wolfburn Morven reveals the distillery's lightly peated side. The malted barley absorbs smoke during drying, linking this whisky to the historic Wolfburn distillery, which used peat as fuel. Morven is distilled twice and matures in ex-bourbon casks and Quarter Casks from Islay. Maturation takes place on site in traditional dunnage warehouses close to the sea.

Morven is part of Wolfburn's core range and carries no age statement. The whisky is bottled at 46% without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Smoke appears first, accompanied by delicate fruit notes and fresh sea air. Vanilla and the scent of oak shavings add to the aromas.
• Palate: Floral notes lead on the palate, followed by raisins and light spice. Malty flavours unfold, giving way to a gentle honey sweetness towards the end.
• Finish: Gentle peat notes accompany a soft, lingering finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Wolfburn is located in Thurso, in the Caithness region, in the far north of mainland Scotland. William Smith founded the original distillery here in 1821, naming it after the Wolf Burn stream that supplied its water. The present distillery was built in 2012 a short distance downstream from the historic remains. On 25 January 2013, new spirit flowed from the stills once again.

The present distillery also uses water from the Wolf Burn. From milling the malt to bottling, Wolfburn works on site without automated production. A long fermentation precedes gentle distillation in copper stills. The whisky then matures in the distillery's dark, cool warehouses. Distillation, maturation and bottling thus all take place in Thurso.
