Special Features:

This single-cask bottling brings together 50 years of maturation and Kirsch Import’s 50th anniversary. Distilled on 10 April 1976, the Caledonian matured in Hogshead No. 900005 and was selected in 2026 for the anniversary edition of Signatory Vintage’s Cask Strength Collection. The cask yielded 213 bottles.

The whisky was bottled at its natural cask strength of 52.6%, without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in a metal tin.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Vanilla and sweet caramel lead the nose. Delicate beeswax notes, subtle cereal tones and early hints of oak complete the bouquet.
• Palate: The whisky feels creamy and full-bodied on the palate. Toffee and vanilla meet baked cereal notes, with clearly perceptible oak giving the flavour structure.
• Finish: Oak remains particularly prominent in the long, dry finish. Gentle vanilla sweetness and a delicate herbal note accompany the lingering flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

Caledonian was established in 1855 by Graham Menzies & Co. near Haymarket station in Edinburgh and was Scotland’s largest distillery at the time. It used a continuously operating Coffey Still to produce grain whisky. From 1867, two large Pot Stills complemented the equipment, producing an Irish-style grain whisky popular with blenders; these stills remained in operation until around 1900. Caledonian closed in 1988. Parts of the buildings were later converted into flats, while the tall chimney was preserved as a historic landmark.

Signatory Vintage was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and his brother. Andrew’s interest in distinctive single-cask whiskies developed while he was working at Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh. After acquiring Edradour in 2002, the company moved its entire operation to Pitlochry by 2007 and added warehouse capacity there. Selecting rare casks is a particular focus of this independent bottler. Andrew Symington oversaw the Caledonian chosen for this anniversary edition for decades.
