Special Features:

The Paris Edition 2026 brings together Chichibu whiskies from 14 casks with different maturation influences. These include first-fill and second-fill bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry hogsheads and virgin American white oak casks. The whiskies in the blend are between six and twelve years old. This lightly peated release is bottled at 50.5%.

For the Collection Monet, the same whisky appears with six different labels featuring paintings by Claude Monet. The Rose version depicts “The Water Lily Pond, Symphony in Rose” from 1900. Of the total release of 2,484 bottles, 414 feature this painting and bear numbers 829 to 1,242. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is delicate and smooth. An almost candied lemon note combines with pear, mirabelle plum and coconut. Pine resin and almond syrup complement the fruit; with aeration, subtle ginger and nutmeg emerge.
• Palate: The whisky opens delicately and vibrantly on the palate with lemon, apple jelly and candied pear. Fresh herbal notes reminiscent of alfalfa follow, alongside malt. White grapes, medlar and yellow kiwi then emerge.
• Finish: The finish is soft and full-bodied. Coconut and rice pudding meet pineapple, plantain and chalky minerality. As the finish develops, liquorice, almonds and cashews unfold alongside floral geranium notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ichiro Akuto founded Chichibu in Saitama Prefecture, around 100 kilometres northwest of Tokyo. The distillery belongs to Venture Whisky Limited and began production in February 2008. Akuto’s family already had ties to the now-closed Hanyu distillery: its founder was his grandfather.

The original Chichibu distillery has fermentation vessels made from Japanese Mizunara oak and two small copper pot stills from Forsyths in Scotland. Its location experiences hot, humid summers and cold winters. These pronounced seasonal temperature differences influence cask maturation and are among the defining conditions for whisky production in Chichibu.
