The Paris Edition 2026 brings together Chichibu whiskies from 14 casks. First- and second-fill bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry hogsheads and new American white oak casks form the basis of this lightly peated composition. The whisky is bottled at 50.5%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

For the Collection Monet, the same whisky appears with six different paintings by Claude Monet on its labels. The green Vert version features “The Water Lily Pond” from 1899, depicting a Japanese-inspired footbridge over the water lily pond. Of the 2,484 bottles in total, 414 feature this painting and are numbered 415 to 828. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The delicate, smooth nose combines almost candied lemon, pear and mirabelle plum with coconut, pine resin and almond syrup. Subtle notes of ginger and nutmeg unfold with aeration.
• Palate: The palate is delicate and lively, combining lemon with apple jelly and candied pear. Fresh herbal notes of alfalfa and malty impressions follow, before white grapes, medlar and golden kiwi emerge.
• Finish: The soft, full-bodied finish combines milky hints of coconut and rice pudding with pineapple, plantain and chalky minerality. Liquorice, almonds, cashews and geranium flowers emerge over time.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ichiro Akuto founded Chichibu in Saitama Prefecture, around 100 kilometres northwest of Tokyo. The distillery belongs to Venture Whisky Ltd. and began production in February 2008. Akuto’s family connection to whisky-making goes back another generation: his grandfather founded the now-closed Hanyu distillery.

The original Chichibu distillery uses Japanese Mizunara oak washbacks and two small copper pot stills made by the Scottish manufacturer Forsyths. Hot, humid summers and cold winters characterise the location, with pronounced seasonal temperature differences influencing cask maturation. La Maison du Whisky selects the casks for the Paris Edition, while Venture Whisky Ltd. produces and bottles the whisky.
