For Heartgow Autumn 2026, Hercynian Distilling Co. combines two sherry styles with different cask formats. The single malt matured in first-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry hogsheads and octaves. The small octaves provide a larger internal wood surface area relative to the volume of liquid, encouraging intensive interaction between whisky and cask.

This autumn edition belongs to the Seasonal Collection for Kirsch Import. Its label reflects the season through leaf motifs and an Art Nouveau design. A total of 384 bottles were filled. The whisky was bottled in 2026 at 48% in a 0.7-litre bottle; it is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense sherry aromas, dark raisins and ripe cherries lead the nose. Delicate vanilla, roasted nuts and restrained oak spice complete the aromas.
• Palate: The whisky is mouth-filling on the palate, with concentrated sherry character. Dark cherries, raisins and other dried fruits combine with dark chocolate, oak, subtle vanilla and a light syrup note.
• Finish: Bitter chocolate, spicy oak and sherry sweetness linger through the long finish. A delicate cocoa note accompanies the final impressions.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hercynian Distilling Co. / Hammerschmiede in Walkenried in the Harz region has been producing spirits since 1985. The first casks of whisky spirit were filled in 2002, followed by the first Harz single malt in 2005. Heartgow comes from this distillery and is an official bottling.

The distillery uses French oak fermentation vats and double distillation in wood-fired pot stills. Anna Buchholz or an experienced distiller determines the cut points between heads, heart and tails. For maturation, the distillery uses oak casks that previously held various wines and spirits. Bottling, closing, sealing and labelling are also carried out by hand.
