Jura Caribbean Rum Cask brings together two cask influences. The single malt first matures in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, before receiving a finish in selected Caribbean rum casks. It belongs to the Cask Editions, through which Jura pairs different previous cask contents with the distillery’s fruity character.

Its creamy, tropical-fruit character combines with sweet citrus notes and a touch of vanilla spice. The whisky is bottled at 40% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Guava and coconut lead the nose, accompanied by sugared almonds and apricots. A delicate citrus note complements the fruit.
• Palate: On the palate, sweet vanilla and fudge combine with mango, banana and guava.
• Finish: Sweet cinnamon spice lingers on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Jura distillery stands on the island of the same name in Scotland’s Inner Hebrides. Archibald Campbell founded it in 1810 as Small Isles distillery. Following its closure in 1901, reconstruction began in 1960, including an expansion of the buildings. Production resumed in 1963 after a break of more than six decades. The distillery has belonged to Whyte & Mackay since 1994.

The water comes from Market Loch. Rain and meltwater from the Paps of Jura pass through the rock into the loch, then flow along natural watercourses to the distillery. Jura uses particularly tall, broad stills for distillation. Their shape encourages copper contact, contributing to the spirit’s fruity, aromatic character. The distillery selects its casks according to which of these qualities they will bring out.
