Special Features:

A single ex-bourbon cask brings together smoky and tropical fruit notes in this Kavalan Peatist. Distilled in 2018, the single malt matured for eight years in Bourbon Barrel B181123016C. La Maison du Whisky selected it exclusively for the Collection Anthology.

This single-cask release comprises 130 bottles. The whisky was bottled at cask strength at 54%, without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Alongside its pronounced peaty character, the whisky reveals ripe mango, banana and creamy coconut notes. Vanilla and distinct oak complement the fruit, while toasted oak and delicate vanilla sweetness accompany the long finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Peat initially leads on the nose, with smoke, ash and root-like notes reminiscent of gentian. Candied citrus fruit, pear and plum accompany it. Coconut milk, fresh walnut, mint and meadow flowers gradually emerge.
• Palate: The whisky is full and concentrated on the palate. The peat reveals an herbal side with saline, mineral nuances, becoming increasingly dry and crumbly. Lemony and resinous notes combine with gentle ginger and clove spice.
• Finish: Pineapple and banana meet milky almond and coconut notes on the finish. Acacia honey and floral hints of iris and lily add to the aftertaste, where fresh peat also remains present.

Distillery/Bottler:

Kavalan is located in Yilan in northeastern Taiwan and was founded in 2005. The distillery belongs to the King Car Group, whose founder Tien-Tsai Lee realised his ambition to create a Taiwanese whisky. The name Kavalan recalls an earlier name for the region.

Kavalan uses temperature-controlled fermentation vessels. Double distillation follows, and the selected heart of the spirit is put into casks to mature. The warm subtropical climate accelerates the extraction of compounds from the wood. These conditions shape maturation at the distillery, while this release focuses on a single ex-bourbon cask.
