Special Features:

Maturation in a selected American ex-bourbon cask defines Kavalan Solist ex-Bourbon. As a single-cask bottling, it expresses that cask's individual influence: vanilla and coconut combine with tropical fruitiness and oak spice. Maturation takes place in Taiwan, where heat and high humidity accelerate the whisky's development.

The whisky is bottled at a cask strength of 55.6%. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense vanilla and coconut notes sit alongside fruity sweetness on the nose. Tropical fruit and spices add to the aromas, joined by malt and fresh oak notes.
• Palate: Creamy vanilla, fruity sweetness and caramel meet subtle wood notes on the palate. Oak spice accompanies the rounded, silky-smooth mouthfeel.
• Finish: The long finish moves from fruity sweetness towards a dry, subtly bitter note. Warmth and oak notes accompany the aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Kavalan distillery is located in Yilan in northeastern Taiwan and belongs to the King Car Group. Construction began in 2005, and the first new-make spirit flowed from its stills on 11 March 2006. The company worked with whisky consultant Dr. Jim Swan during its development. The name Kavalan refers to the indigenous people who originally inhabited the Yilan region.

Proximity to Snow Mountain's spring water was an important factor in choosing the site. Kavalan ferments in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks and uses copper pot stills. While fermentation is protected from the subtropical heat, warmth and humidity shape the subsequent cask maturation. Yilan's climate is thus an integral part of the distillery's working methods.
