Kilchoman Ballinaby brings together whiskies matured predominantly in Oloroso sherry casks with a proportion matured in ex-bourbon casks. The blend comprises approximately 60% Oloroso sherry-cask whisky and 40% bourbon-cask whisky. This places Ballinaby close to the sherry-led Sanaig, while giving the bourbon-cask influence more room. Fruity sweetness, earthy peat smoke and savoury notes shape its character.

Introduced in 2025, this edition was developed for travel retail. It shares its name with a farm north of Loch Gorm, near which stands a distinctive standing stone. Ballinaby carries no age statement and is bottled at 46% in a 0.7-litre bottle. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Raisins, sultanas and orange peel mingle on the nose with powerful smoke and a mixture of spices.
• Palate: On the palate, dark cherries and toffee meet savoury grilled-meat notes and dark chocolate.
• Finish: Christmas spices, peat smoke, brown sugar and cocoa linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 2005, Kilchoman sits among the farm buildings of Rockside Farm on Islay's north-west coast. Founder Anthony Wills drew on the island's tradition of farm distilling. Its working methods include locally cut peat and slow, manually controlled distillation. The whisky matures on Islay and is bottled on site. The distillery's own barley fields and its separate 100% Islay range underline its agricultural roots.
