Special Features:

A Recioto finish shapes this eight-year-old single malt from Langatun. The whisky first matured in a Swiss Chardonnay white wine cask, followed by a French oak barrique that had previously held Recioto red wine. This cask, numbered 957, lent the whisky its fruity accents.

For the Cask Proof Distillery Edition, Langatun selects the cask whose whisky performs best when tasted without added water. Batch 4 was distilled on 4 May 2018 and bottled on 1 June 2026 at a cask strength of 59.1%. The release comprises 150 numbered bottles, each containing 0.5 litres and supplied in a wooden box. The whisky contains no colouring and is not chill-filtered.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is gentle and lightly fruity, with ripe cherries and prunes. Pronounced wood notes meet forest honey and hints of Graubünden nut tart.
• Palate: Wood and honey come through intensely on the palate. Pear and a little black pepper complement the robust flavour.
• Finish: Raisins, nutmeg and dark chocolate emerge in the long finish. Pepper and wood remain perceptible.

Distillery/Bottler:

Langatun's roots lie with the Baumberger family: after training as a master brewer, Jakob Baumberger founded a distillery on his father's farm in 1857. His great-grandson Hans Baumberger III revived this legacy in 2005 and began producing today's Langatun single malts.

In 2014, Langatun moved into a historic granary in Aarwangen. Former wine and sherry casks play an important role in the maturation of its single malts. The Cask Proof Distillery Edition adds a particular selection criterion: how the whisky expresses itself undiluted.
