A single ex-bourbon cask shapes this Neisson from the Artist #16 series. Distilled in 2020, the Rhum Agricole matured for six years in tropical conditions in American oak with a Char #2 level. It was bottled from cask number 239 at its cask strength of 56%. The edition comprises 240 bottles.

Artist #16 is the first edition of La Maison du Whisky's series dedicated to rum and was created in collaboration with Neisson. Artist Johanna Reynaud, known as Gribouilliz, designed the labels. This bottling features her boxfish motif. It comes in gift packaging containing a 0.7-litre bottle.

The rum combines fruit and spices with chocolate, balsamic notes and herbal impressions. Its lively flavour meets a silky, velvety texture. During maturation, 42% of the volume was lost to evaporation—the so-called angels' share.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is expansive and layered. Blood orange, dried apricot and roasted mango meet cinnamon and ginger. Chocolate, cypress and pipe tobacco then emerge.
• Palate: The rum is lively and silky on the palate, with a velvety mouthfeel. Vineyard peach, currants, walnut and chestnut precede a note of cane sugar.
• Finish: The finish remains expressive and velvety. Geranium, clove, nutmeg and sandalwood give way to caramel, black liquorice and lime blossom honey.

Distillery/Bottler:

Neisson is based on the Thieubert estate in Le Carbet, Martinique. Adrien Neisson bought land there in 1931 and planted sugar cane; the distillery he established with his brother Jean was officially recognised in 1932. In 1995, Jean's daughter Claudine Neisson Vernant and his grandson Grégory Vernant took over the family business.

Neisson makes its Rhum Agricole from sugar cane juice using its own yeasts. Fermentation at the distillery lasts between 72 and 120 hours. Continuous distillation takes place in an all-copper Savalle column, installed in 1952 and further developed by Jean Neisson. It is dismantled and inspected annually. Bottling also takes place on site; for this edition, Neisson and La Maison du Whisky collaborate on the Artist series.
