This Planteray’s double maturation links the Fiji Islands with the Charente: eleven years in former bourbon casks in Lautoka’s tropical climate are followed by three years in Ferrand casks in Javrezac. The rum matured for fourteen years in total. A selection of 31 casks was chosen for this one-time limited release in the Oceana Collection.

Paradise Beverage Distillery distilled the rum from molasses in 2012. Fermentation lasting four to five days was followed by distillation in double thumper pot stills. The rum was bottled in 2026 at 45%, with a dosage of 0 grams per litre. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging decorated with tropical landscapes and wildlife.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The intense, complex nose combines molasses and plantain with guava, quince, orange and roasted pineapple. Leather, light tobacco and tropical flowers are joined by subtle hints of clove and smoke.
• Palate: The rum is rich and oily on the palate, with lively acidity. Pineapple and mango give way to citrus zest and eucalyptus.
• Finish: The long, lingering finish reveals vanilla, passion fruit, gentle spices and cherry stone notes. A volcanic, mineral note accompanies the aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Rum Co. of Fiji was founded in 1980 in Lautoka on the island of Viti Levu. It processes molasses made from Fijian sugar cane. For Fiji Islands 2012, Planteray continues its longstanding collaboration with Paradise Beverage Distillery and takes charge of the further maturation in France.

Behind Planteray is Maison Ferrand, with its founder and Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel. The brand focuses on different rum origins and their respective fermentation and distillation methods. Gabriel selects a limited number of casks for the vintage collection. Maturation in two climates is a defining feature: after ageing in their country of origin, the rums travel by sea to southwestern France, where they continue to mature in former Ferrand casks.
