This Planteray's double maturation brings together two distinct locations: the rum first spent eight years in bourbon casks in tropical Flic en Flac, Mauritius, followed by another four years in Ferrand casks in Javrezac, France. It belongs to the Oceana Collection, which brings together rums from Mauritius, Fiji and Australia. Twenty-four casks were selected for the Mauritian edition.

The rum is made from molasses, fermented for two days and distilled in a column still in 2014. After a total of twelve years of maturation, it was bottled in 2026 at 50%. Its dosage is 5 grams per litre. This one-time limited edition has no added colouring and is not chill-filtered. It comes in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The expressive nose brings together caramel, vanilla and tropical fruit. Lemon zest, passion fruit, ripe banana and coconut add to the bouquet, while nutmeg and sweet tobacco remain subtle background nuances.
• Palate: Dried fruit combines with guava on the palate. Delicate floral accents recall rose petals.
• Finish: The long finish reveals black tea and the spice of crushed pepper. Candied orange peel lingers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Planteray is Maison Ferrand's rum brand. Founder and Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel developed it through his collaboration with rum distilleries that were using previously used Ferrand casks to mature their spirits. Since 2024, new products have appeared under the name Planteray rather than Plantation.

Further maturation in France is central to this approach: after ageing in their country of origin, the rums travel by sea to south-western France, where they are transferred into former Ferrand casks made from French oak. Gabriel decides when this second maturation phase is complete. The Mauritius 2014 comes from a historic sugar estate with a distillery on the island's west coast; the subsequent cask maturation connects these Mauritian origins with ageing at Ferrand.
