Special Features:

The Marsala finish combines this Bavarian single malt’s malty character with fruity wine influences. The whisky first matures for three years in American white oak casks, before moving into casks that previously held Marsala from Sicily. This finishing period adds the fortified wine’s fruit aromas to its malty notes.

SLYRS uses Marsala Superiore DOC casks for this expression. In the glass, the whisky has a dark amber colour with a copper sheen. It is bottled at 46% alcohol in a 0.35-litre bottle, without chill filtration or added colouring.

For drinking neat, a serving temperature of 16 to 18 °C is recommended. Store the bottle upright and away from light.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Ripe strawberries meet redcurrants and a light sweetness on the nose.
• Palate: On the palate, the fruit recalls freshly cooked jam, accompanied by the warming spice of nutmeg.
• Finish: Wine-like and floral notes linger through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

SLYRS is based in Neuhaus on Lake Schliersee in Upper Bavaria. The idea for a Bavarian single malt took shape during a trip to Scotland in 1994 by brewer and master distiller Florian Stetter. The first SLYRS was distilled in 1999, and the first 1,600 bottles went on sale in 2002. Following the company’s foundation in 2004, the whisky distillery in Neuhaus was established in 2007.

For its classic single malt production, SLYRS processes Bavarian brewing barley into wort, which is fermented under temperature control using its own whisky yeast. Distillation takes place twice in copper pot stills, with generous cuts separating the heads and tails from the heart. For initial maturation, the distillery uses new, heavily toasted American white oak barriques with a capacity of 225 litres. A range of wine and spirit casks then broadens the aromatic spectrum of its finished expressions.
