Special Features:

A single cask and Islay's volcanic basalt are central to this sixteen-year-old bottling. Formed from cooled lava, the dark rock shapes parts of the coastline and provides the inspiration for its design. In the whisky, fruity smoke and coal fires meet mineral coastal notes; a salty, savoury side complements its bold yet gentle character.

The Islay follows an ongoing series of single-cask bottlings: when one cask is exhausted, another follows under the same name, with the same age statement and alcohol content. The whisky is distilled and matured on Islay. It reaches its drinking strength of 46.3% through slow dilution over two weeks. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, juicy fruit notes and sweet smoke mingle with the scent of preserved peaches.
• Palate: The palate is fruity and sweet, with soft mango notes and dry wood smoke.
• Finish: The finish leaves impressions of coal fires and melon, along with a mineral note reminiscent of sun-warmed granite.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Islay brings together Master of Malt and Studio Minerva, a branding and design agency founded by women. Master of Malt contributes more than four decades of experience with its own whisky bottlings, while Studio Minerva connects the collection's design with the island's geology. Alongside basalt for the sixteen-year-old whisky, red sandstone and quartzite provide inspiration for the older releases.

Sam Simmons, Head of Whisky at Master of Malt, is responsible for selecting the casks for the collection. The concept places the shared island character ahead of individual distillery names, combining it with the distinctive identity of each cask.
