Special Features:

The Islay connects single-cask whiskies with the geology of their home island. The twenty-year-old expression takes its inspiration from the red sandstone that shapes Islay’s coasts, valleys and soils. This single malt was both distilled and matured on Islay.

The range follows a succession of single casks: once one cask is exhausted, another follows under the same name, with the same age statement and alcohol strength. This leaves room for differences in flavour between batches. Before bottling, the whisky is gradually brought down to its drinking strength of 46.3% over two weeks. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Tropical fruit notes mingle with ashy smoke on the nose.
• Palate: The palate offers flavours of white chocolate and vanilla wafers.
• Finish: Vanilla and oak linger in the delicate finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Islay brings together independent spirits retailer and bottler Master of Malt and the women-founded design agency Studio Minerva. Master of Malt contributes more than four decades of whisky bottling experience, while Studio Minerva has worked for brands including Laphroaig, Bushmills, Courvoisier and Brugal. With The Islay, the agency developed its first own brand in partnership with Master of Malt.

Cask selection for the range is overseen by Dr. Samuel J. Simmons, Head of Whisky at Master of Malt. The concept places Islay at its heart as the whiskies’ shared origin, deliberately leaving the individual distilleries unnamed. Alongside the twenty-year-old expression, the first collection also includes sixteen-year-old and thirty-year-old single malts.
