This edition of The Islay has spent thirty years maturing in a single cask. The single malt was distilled and matured on Islay. Its design takes inspiration from quartzite, a hard rock formed when sandstone is transformed by heat and pressure. The light-coloured presentation box reflects this rock motif and is included.

The Islay combines single-cask bottlings with an ongoing range. Once one cask is exhausted, another follows under the same name, with the same age statement and alcohol strength. Each bottling still comes from a single cask, allowing individual differences between successive batches. The alcohol strength is slowly reduced to 46.3% over two weeks. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Gentle smoke accompanies the fruit, while the texture remains delicate despite its richness. Fresh vanilla pods and dark sugar syrup complement the peaty character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, tarry notes mingle with cherries, gentle smoke and juicy peaches.
• Palate: The whisky is sweet and mouth-filling on the palate, yet retains a delicate texture. Tropical fruit flavours unfold with intensity.
• Finish: The finish feels deep and mature. It evokes an old cask warehouse and brings together peat and plums.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Islay is a collaboration between Master of Malt and Studio Minerva, a design agency founded by women. Master of Malt contributes more than four decades of experience with its own whisky bottlings. Studio Minerva works internationally on spirits branding and packaging; The Islay was the team's first venture into developing its own brand rather than a client project.

Dr. Samuel J. Simmons, Head of Whisky at Master of Malt, was responsible for selecting the casks for the first collection. The shared concept places Islay's provenance at its heart and deliberately leaves individual distilleries unnamed. The designs of the collection's three age expressions draw on basalt, red sandstone and quartzite.
