Special Features:

This Cognac reveals the fresher, green-fruited side of Fins Bois. Its cru of origin shapes this Tiffon release, selected by Berry Bros. & Rudd exclusively for Kirsch Import. It belongs to a trio of Cognacs from three different crus; only 29 bottles of Fins Bois Lot 19:22 were released.

The spirit was distilled in 1922 and bottled in 2022. Its storage history included French oak and, later, glass demijohns, in which Berry Bros. & Rudd acquired these old Cognacs. Around a century therefore separates distillation and bottling, but this does not mean a hundred years of uninterrupted cask maturation. The Cognac was bottled at its natural strength of 43%, without chill filtration, colouring or added sugar. The 0.7-litre bottle is presented in a wooden box.

Despite its long history, heavy oak notes do not dominate. Green fruit, tea and grassy impressions give it a rather restrained, focused character. Its freshness carries through into the finish.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose offers unusual hints of putty and fresh paint alongside almond shells and Wulong tea. Fresh tree bark, pine needles and apple peel complement green and yellow plums. There is also a little grass and an impression reminiscent of grapeseed oil.
  • Palate: The palate is grassy and green-fruited, with greengages, gooseberries and a possible hint of star fruit. Wulong tea accompanies melon rind, green melon and fresh green beans. The oak remains in the background.
  • Finish: The finish is not particularly long, but retains a pronounced freshness. A lightly grassy note lingers in the aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1875, Tiffon is a Cognac house based in Jarnac on the River Charente. The Braastad couple took over the family business in 1919, and Château de Triac became part of the estate in 1946. Its own vineyards now cover 40 hectares across the Fins Bois and Grande Champagne crus. The grapes for this release come from the Fins Bois cru.

Tiffon's current production methods include double distillation in traditional copper stills. The house has ten stills, each with a capacity of 25 hectolitres. Its ageing cellars stand on the banks of the Charente, where the humid surroundings favour slow maturation.

Berry Bros. & Rudd was responsible for selecting this release. The London wine and spirits merchant traces its origins to a grocery shop opened in 1698 and still trades from St James’s Street. It began offering spirits from selected casks under its own label in the early 19th century.
