Copeland Merchant’s Quay Green Label combines malt and grain whiskey with components from Banyuls dessert-wine and PX sherry casks. The grain whiskey contributes to its smooth, lightly sweet character, while the two wine-cask components add further fruit and depth to the blend. It is bottled at 40%.

The aromatic spectrum ranges from banana, blackcurrant, raspberry jam and blossoms to apricot jam, salted butter crackers and oak. Vanilla defines the dry finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, the whiskey is fragrant, mild and sweet. Banana foam candy, oak, blackcurrant and raspberry jam mingle with meadow clover, a sweet croissant, a small vanilla cake, zesty orange with a hint of pine and roasted walnut.
• Palate: On the palate, it is slightly dry, fresh, sweet and floral. Charred oak and lightly salted butter crackers meet a hint of apricot jam, fresh hay, green apple and possibly fresh bread, while mild clove spice provides gentle warmth.
• Finish: The finish is medium in length to rather short and moderately dry, leaving a hint of vanilla behind.

Distillery/Bottler:

The story of The Copeland Distillery in Donaghadee began in 2016 with a crowdfunding campaign backed by more than 370 people. Following a nine-month restoration, the company moved into a former cinema and bottling facility near the historic harbour. Known as “The Merchants’ Quay” in the 17th century, the harbour provided the historical reference for the Merchant’s Quay name.

For the Green Label, Copeland brings together malt and grain whiskey with the components from Banyuls dessert-wine and PX sherry casks, combines them for a final period of cask maturation and bottles the finished blend.
