This single malt marks a milestone for Powerscourt Distillery: it is the distillery’s first release made entirely from its own distillate, and the first single malt distilled and released in County Wicklow for more than 100 years. Made from 100% malted barley, it matures in bourbon casks and is bottled at 46% without chill filtration.

The gift set includes a 0.7-litre bottle and an engraved Fercullen hip flask. Toffee and vanilla give the whiskey a dessert-like character, complemented by apple, pear, baking spices and soft oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers toffee and vanilla alongside apple and pear. Leather, cinnamon, nutmeg and warm buttery pastries add to the baking spices.
• Palate: On the palate, creamy vanilla custard and salted caramel meet soft oak, biscuits and tarte Tatin.
• Finish: Oak spice, soft leather, honeyed almonds and stewed fruit linger in the warming finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Powerscourt Distillery is located on the Powerscourt Estate in Enniskerry, County Wicklow, about 25 kilometres from Dublin. The name Fercullen comes from an old name for the area that once stretched from Dublin across the Wicklow Mountains.

The distillery uses three copper stills to make both malt and pot still whiskey. Depending on the whiskey, it distils twice or three times. For earlier Fercullen releases, founding Master Distiller Noel Sweeney selected mature whiskey stocks while the distillery’s own spirit was still ageing. This single malt, by contrast, was distilled entirely at Powerscourt.
