Grafter brings together five Irish whiskeys made using different production methods: Shortcross Single Malt, double-distilled and triple-distilled malt whiskey, pot still whiskey and grain whiskey. Maturation takes place in ex-bourbon casks, sherry casks and new American oak casks. This small-batch bottling therefore combines different distillation methods and cask influences.

The whiskey is bottled at 43% alcohol without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres. Grafter received a gold medal and 95 points at the International Wine and Spirits Competition 2022.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Fruit and citrus notes lead on the nose. Subtle vanilla and gentle spice complement the aromas.
• Palate: Sweet, full-bodied malt opens the palate. Rich, creamy pot still spice follows.
• Finish: The long finish coats the palate with a dense texture. Malt and pot still spice come together before lightly toasted grain and spice notes bring the finish to a close.

Distillery/Bottler:

Irish Whiskey Bonding Co. draws on the tradition of Irish whiskey merchants of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Known as bonders, they bought newly distilled spirits from distilleries and stored them under duty suspension. They handled maturation, blending and bottling, developing their own regional styles in the process. Today, the company sources both new distillates and matured whiskeys from Irish distilleries to create its own blends.

The people behind the brand are Fiona and David Boyd-Armstrong, who founded Rademon Estate Distillery in County Down in 2013. After starting with Shortcross Gin, the distillery began distilling whiskey in 2015. While Shortcross represents whiskeys from their own distillery, Irish Whiskey Bonding Co. combines these with whiskeys purchased from other distilleries. The Shortcross malt component in Grafter also comes from Rademon Estate.
