Maturation exclusively in bourbon barrels puts Lochranza Distillery’s bright, fruit-forward style at the heart of Arran Barrel Reserve. Crisp orchard fruit, citrus peel and vanilla shape this light single malt, with gentle oak notes accompanying the fruit. It is bottled without an age statement at 43% alcohol.

The whisky takes its colour entirely from the cask wood, with no added colouring. Unlike the higher-strength Arran bottlings, Barrel Reserve is chill-filtered to help it remain clear at low temperatures or when served over ice. It can be enjoyed neat or used in whisky cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals lemon and other citrus fruits alongside green apple.
• Palate: On the palate, vanilla sweetness combines with light cinnamon notes.
• Finish: The finish is subtle and lingering. A hint of sweet oak accompanies a balanced interplay of fruit and spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Lochranza Distillery is situated in the village of the same name on the Scottish island of Arran. Its water comes from Loch na Davie in the hills behind the distillery and flows down into the valley via the Easan Biorach burn. The distillery uses Concerto barley to make its whisky. After mashing, the wort is transferred to wooden washbacks, where added yeast starts fermentation.

The fermented liquid is then distilled twice in copper pot stills. During maturation in oak casks, the colourless spirit develops its colour and a substantial part of its character. The distillery uses former sherry and bourbon casks, among others; for Barrel Reserve, it deliberately limits maturation to bourbon barrels.
