Long maturation in oak casks and a gentle smoky character define Isle of Skye 18. Released in batches, this blend combines whiskies matured for at least 18 years. It is offered at 40% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle and comes in gift packaging.

The long maturation gives the blend a fuller body and a slightly oily mouthfeel. Gentle, warming spice and tropical fruit notes accompany these qualities and are linked to the influence of the oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, gooseberry and cinnamon combine with an impression of sea breeze. Lime, chilli and black pepper then emerge.
• Palate: On the palate, gentle smoke gives way to notes of citrus peel, fruitcake and toffee.
• Finish: In the finish, peat smoke fades into rounded malt notes and dark chocolate.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ian Macleod created Isle of Skye in 1933 from selected whiskies from Skye and the Scottish mainland. Today, Ian Macleod Distillers carries the brand forward. Its origins lie in a secret family recipe combining peated island malts with softer malts from Speyside and the Highlands, as well as grain whiskies.

The interplay of different whisky types and regions of origin is central to Isle of Skye: island malts contribute the peat influence, while the other components complement the blend. Even for the original recipe, Macleod required at least eight years of maturation. The 18-year-old bottling continues this approach with components matured for considerably longer.
