Talisker 10 is the classic age-stated expression from the Skye distillery: a ten-year-old island single malt bottled at 45.8%, offered here in a 0.7-litre bottle without gift packaging. This official bottling combines a stated age with Talisker’s characteristic interplay of smoke, sea and pepper.

The whisky is distilled twice and matures for at least ten years in American oak casks. Its powerful peat smoke sits alongside dried-fruit sweetness and distinct barley malt. Maritime nuances and pepper round out this smoky, sweet character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Powerful peat smoke shapes the nose. A subtle salty sea note reminiscent of fresh oysters joins a citrus-like sweetness.
• Palate: The whisky is full and rich on the palate, with pronounced dried-fruit sweetness, powerful smoke and distinct barley malt. It is intensely warming, with the characteristic pepper note emerging at the back of the palate.
• Finish: The finish is very long and powerful. Warming pepper, an appetising sweetness and lingering smoke remain present.

Distillery/Bottler:

Talisker Distillery produces this ten-year-old single malt in Carbost, on the shores of Loch Harport on the Isle of Skye. Brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill founded the distillery in 1830; it is the island’s oldest operating distillery. Since 1988, Talisker 10 has been part of the Classic Malts range, now owned by Diageo.

Characteristic features of its production include wooden washbacks made from Oregon pine and a fermentation time of around 70 hours. The distillery uses two wash stills for the first distillation and three spirit stills for the second. U-shaped vapour pipes and additional return pipes on the wash stills direct some of the condensate back into the stills. Traditional worm tubs provide the subsequent condensation, cooling the vapours through copper coils immersed in water-filled tubs.

Facts:
