Special Features:

Akashi Blue is a marriage of malt and grain whiskies. It initially matures for around two years in American white oak casks that previously held shochu, before being finished in sherry and bourbon casks.

Its aromatic spectrum includes peach, pear, vanilla and citrus alongside peanut, rye and cereal notes. Dried fruit, oat biscuits, black pepper and oak spice complement the fruity, cereal-led profile, while a subtle hint of smoke remains discreetly in the background.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is gentle and fruity, with green apple, orange peel and honey accompanied by vanilla, restrained oak spice and white pepper.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is smooth and balanced, with light fruit, vanilla, cereal notes and mild sweetness. Pepper, cinnamon and a subtle hint of smoke provide spicy accents.
• Finish: The medium-long to long finish leaves lingering fruity and woody notes, gentle spice and delicate sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Eigashima Shuzo is based in the Eigashima district of Akashi in Hyōgo Prefecture, around 30 kilometres southwest of Kobe and close to the Seto Inland Sea. The company’s roots date back to 1679, and it was formally established in 1888. In addition to whisky, it produces sake, shochu, mirin, wine and brandy.

Eigashima Shuzo has held a licence to produce whisky since 1919. The company draws groundwater from its own wells and matures its whiskies in a warehouse near the sea. Akashi Blue is composed of malt and grain whiskies and released by Eigashima Shuzo as an official bottling under its own brand.
