Special Features:

Akashi Red combines malt and grain whiskies in a Scotch-style blend. It belongs to Eigashima Shuzo’s core range and is its best-selling whisky bottling. The whisky is offered at 40% in a 0.5-litre bottle.

Its lively malt aromas meet a light, smooth and rather dry flavour. The combination of malt and grain distinguishes it from the brand’s single malt bottlings. It can be enjoyed over ice and also works well in a highball with soda water.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, light-coloured grapes and honey mingle with delicate vanilla. A subtle pepper note adds to the aromas.
• Palate: On the palate, juicy peach notes meet gentle almond flavours. Oak and vanilla complete the flavour.
• Finish: The long finish combines delicate almond sweetness with subtly spicy oak notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Akashi is produced by Eigashima Shuzo Co., Ltd., based in the coastal city of Akashi in Hyogo Prefecture. White Oak Distillery is part of Eigashima Shuzo. The company grew out of the region’s sake-making tradition and was founded in 1888 by Hyokichi Urabe. It received an early Japanese whisky licence in 1919 and built a new whisky distillery next to its headquarters in 1984.

The site includes seven historic wooden storage and production buildings. Their thick walls and few windows limit the influence of outside air and help keep the indoor temperature stable. The second warehouse, completed in 1891, is now used to store shochu and whisky.
